In 2017, we began a research project seeks to analyze the relationship between maintenance conditions of single-room occupancy (SRO) hotels, tenants’ experiences of livability, and their experiences reporting city bylaw violations around maintenance. The project will also examine how and with what effects models of SRO management and tenant advocacy are playing in discussions over the future of SROs in Vancouver.
The project is supported and advised by our Research Advisory Committee. Current members of our RAC include: Dr. Nicholas Blomley (SFU), Dr. Lisa Freeman (KPU), Dr. Jeff Masuda (Queen’s), Dr. Eugene McCann (SFU), and Dr. Elvin Wyly (UBC). We are grateful for their support and mentorship.
